A long time ago, there was a woman that chose her gifts to favour her own. This spread pain and sorrow among the others, until the druids deemed her powers unfaithful. The council decided: The balance needed to be restored, and the end of this woman was the only way for her to be tamed.
So, with magic old, she was to find her fate on the bottom of the freezing lake on top of the Giant's mountain. The woman was bound by ropes and spells, to be cast into the dark. But before she fell into her watery grave, the woman cast one last spell. Whoever was to step into the waters would lose their beauty and age. She shouted: "If I cannot have it, no one shall grow old”. With that her end came. And it was quiet on the mountain again.
The days came and went. The seasons passed, and the story turned to myth, and myth to legend. Even the druids slowly faded away. Yet, centuries later, the woman was still locked away, with no one remembering her deeds or name. The anger in her soul grew and festered, until the waters of the lake turned dark, too. And so her final spell came true, whoever dared swimming in the lake did not return quite the same.
One day, a traveller between the worlds visited the lake. Seeing the injustice and imbalance brought to this place, she pleaded: "Time has passed, and so has the crime. Her sin was paid with life. We plead so that for the land to find peace, this soul must be freed and so peace may return as well as harmony”.
This honest word, spoken with kindness and grace, pierced through the veil and was received by the ancestors of the lands. They weighed the answer carefully, and deemed: the price for the crimes was paid indeed, but those who were harmed needed to agree in order for the woman to be freed. So the druids were called from beyond their graves. And finally, after centuries, the woman in the dark lake could be freed. She was lifted on to shore, but the light she once carried with her was no more.
Seeing her feeble physique, the Fae folk on the mountain’s foot took pity. She was brought deep into the forest to be healed. Spirits far and near appeared. Mother Nature wrapped her arms so close around her heart that all darkness was released. It was at this point, that her soul was again whole and ready to be returned home.
The light of the beyond opened, and the deadwalkers came. Spirits, guiding lost souls home again. Hugging and smiling, they embraced the woman and on board of the Spirit ship sailed into the white light. And finally, after all, balance and harmony to the lands and the Giant's mountain was restored. But though the curse lifted, the lake remains dark, but no one knows why. Maybe a symbol of the crime or a warning from beyond the veil. Would you dare to swim in the lake again?
